Multiply.com is a site for music sharing site plus social networking. Lately they have change the way you listen/download music. First they remove the music search from their site and they show you a page not found if you link from outside their site. They also removed the download link from each songs, but the question is do you still want to download songs from multiply.com?
The following will be a educational stuff, use it at your own risk. And remember to support the artist, buy their album or songs, or just go to youtube.com and you can view the video of a song
The following will not be applicable to multiply.com but to many sites as well
How to search multiply:
Google is still the best search engine out there. So go to google.com and search something like (read the stuff below so that you will not see page not found):
1) site:multiply.com/music + <artist name/song name>
eg. site:multiply.com/music + incubus
site:multiply.com/music + how to save a life
2) use other sites to search for music on multiply site, just remove the site: and add quote like:
“multiply.com/music” maroon 5
“multiply.com/music” yellow big taxi
For this you have to get the link from the result page
Going to the selected music
Multiply.com has something like if the referrer of the link is not multiply.com then show page not found. So the work around for this one is: (if you are using internet explorer please stop using it and download firefox here
, later you will need it)
1) After doing a search, select what you want and right click on that link and copy link location.
2) Open a new tab or new window.
3) Paste the copied link location to the address bar, and page not found is found!!!
In case multiply.com decided that you cant do that anymore, another work around is.
1) Using firefox download firebug extension. Firebug
2) Install firebug and restart firefox
3) Enable firebug by Tools -> Firebug -> Open Firebug -> Enable Firebug
4) Go to multiply.com or your profile page or the profile of the user
Having the copied link in your hand
5) Go to multiply.com select a link and right click on that and select Inspect Element
6) Firebug will open and will go to the node of that element, click on the value of href (that is after href=”–this one–”)
7) Paste your copied link and click the link (the one you inspected on), and this will make multiply see that the link comes from their site.
Downloading
Multiply.com uses m3u, which is a playlist, which have the links to your mp3 or someone else mp3, to see what i mean save the m3u on your desktop and open it with notepad
1) Using firefox download this extension M3U Ripper
2) Restart firefox
3) On the playlist that you like, right click and Rip Playlist Content (Please buy the album if you think the artist deserve it)
I dont blame multiply.com for removing download from their site, its for sure RIAA telling them to do it and they have to comply. But RIAA still dont get it, in technology there will also be a work around, its either they adopt it or they will suffer from it. EMI seems to be the only one that understand this a bit. Just remember all of the stuff here are for educational purposes only use it at your own risk and do buy the album if it deserve to be brought.
hi…thanks for the great educational session…it does help but abit too late…..noe there’s no m3u to dowload…so how now?
